About Mark
My first years in Colorado were spent skiing 100 + days and fishing 100 + days a year, as well as biking and hiking.
I supported my outdoor habits by bartending nights in Breckenridge back when there was 1 stop light, then in Crested Butte (No High speed chairlifts, I helped build the 1st the Silver queen). After 6 years in Colorado I thought I knew enough to be dangerous and I started guiding fishing and teaching skiing (circa 1993).
After my 1st few summers guiding fishing I was asked to open a Fly Shop in the historic Almont Resort. I enjoyed 28 years of running a fly shop, guiding and meeting many people. When the new owner purchased the resort my lease was not renewed, I closed the doors September 1, 2022.
Bitter but sweet, I am excited to spend all my time on the water as I first started 31 years ago.
For 20 years I helped out our local Trout Unlimited Chapter serving on the past boards including as Treasurer and President. Helping to keep our rivers clean and ending aerial spraying for mosquitos on the Gunnison River are a few of our accomplishments. I have competed 4 times in the annual TU fundraiser "Superfly" being on the wining team twice and placing third once.
I instructed skiing in Crested Butte for over 25 years and was fully certified in alpine and telemark instruction. I retired with lifetime Epic Passes for my wife and I after instructing a few winters with Vail Resorts. When the rivers are frozen I spend my days skiing Crested Butte and Monarch or skijoring the hound dog "Olive" with my wife in the backcountry.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best fishes,
Mark Day
