Camping in the area

Camping in the area around Almont is restricted to designated campgrounds only. However, there are an abundance of Forest Service campgrounds around, starting at a mile from our Shop. To reserve spots click here.

Primitive camping is allowed in certain U.S.F.S. Lands in the upper Taylor and Spring Creek.
Rules To Know

Camp 200 feet from water. At some lakes you are not allowed to camp within 1/4 mile of them. Many areas also have camping within designated campgrounds only as well. Check the maps!
No unattended fires!
Many areas have designated roads only for travel with a motorized vehicle. Check out the maps! Wilderness areas are non-motorized/non-mechanical travel, and that means no bicycles and hangliders as well. Foot and horse travel only.
Horses and livestock have the right-of-way on all trails.
Know your guide's credentials.
The Forest Service requires guides and outfitters, and the State of Colorado, to be licensed, insured, and bonded! Otherwise they are illegal.
You can leave no permanent structures of any kind in Wilderness!
Leave all gates as you find them!
You absolutely must to have permission to be on private property! This includes rivers. That is your responsibility to know what is private, and what is not, even when not fenced or posted!
